Muse Can Send Emails, Make Payments and Handle Tasks for You

Meta has launched Muse, a new artificial intelligence agent that can connect to users’ personal apps and services to perform tasks such as sending emails, booking travel, filling out forms and making online purchases.

Unlike traditional AI chatbots that primarily answer questions or generate content, Muse is designed to take action on a user’s behalf. Instead of explaining how to complete a task, users can give Muse a goal and let the AI work through the required steps.

The launch is part of Meta’s broader push toward AI agents and its vision of personal superintelligence — AI that understands users and can help accomplish tasks in the real world.

What Can Meta Muse Do?

Muse can connect with several types of everyday services, including email, calendars, shopping, payments, health and fitness, dining, events and smart-home devices.

Users don’t necessarily need to provide instructions for every step. Muse can understand a broader objective, create a plan and execute multiple actions.

For example, a user could ask Muse to help organize a trip. The agent can research options, navigate websites, fill out forms and continue working until it needs the user’s approval.

Meta says Muse can also send emails, book travel, negotiate on a user’s behalf, lower bills and help manage projects.

The AI can also use information from previous interactions. A recipe discovered on Instagram, for example, could potentially be turned into a grocery list, while information about guests’ dietary preferences could be considered when planning a dinner.

Muse Can Make Online Payments

One of Muse’s most notable features is its ability to complete online purchases.

Meta has integrated Muse with Link by Stripe, allowing the AI agent to check out using a one-time-use card. This can help prevent the user’s actual payment-card details from being exposed during the transaction.

Meta says eligible purchases made through Muse are also covered by Link’s purchase protections.

The company plans to add Shop Pay support, while 1Password integration is also in development.

This could eventually allow AI agents to search for products, compare options and complete purchases without users manually moving between shopping websites and payment screens.

Security Remains a Major Concern

Giving an AI access to personal accounts, emails and payment services creates obvious privacy and security risks.

Meta says Muse operates inside a dedicated Muse Secure VM, a virtual environment designed to isolate the agent and connected user data.

The company has also developed Sentinel, a separate AI system that monitors Muse’s internet activity. Meta says Sentinel can block actions or require additional approval when necessary.

Users control which services Muse can access and can revoke permissions. Muse is also designed to request confirmation before sensitive actions, including sending emails and making purchases.

However, security concerns remain. Reuters reported that internal testing uncovered security and reliability problems involving private data, prompting Meta to delay the launch while it worked on additional safeguards.

Muse is powered by Muse Spark, an AI model designed for agentic tasks.

The key difference between an AI agent and a traditional chatbot is its ability to work toward a broader objective. Rather than simply responding to a single prompt, an agent can break a task into multiple steps and execute them.

Meta says Muse can continue working after users leave the app and return when approval is required or something changes.

The company is also developing Muse Confidential VM, which is expected to provide additional protection by encrypting the virtual environment and user data.

Where Is Meta Muse Available?

Muse is initially rolling out to adults in the United States through its dedicated iOS and Android apps, the Muse website and WhatsApp.

Meta also plans to bring Muse capabilities to its AI glasses in the future.

Why Meta Muse Matters

Muse represents a shift from AI that simply answers questions to AI that takes action.

Instead of asking an AI how to book a flight, users could eventually ask it to find a suitable flight and complete the booking. Instead of asking how to write an email, they could give Muse the goal and allow it to prepare and send the message.

But the more control an AI receives over personal accounts and money, the more important reliability, security and human approval become.

For Meta, Muse is therefore more than another chatbot. It is a bet on a future where users can simply explain what they want — and let an AI handle the work.
