Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max Launched in China on October 1st
Huawei is preparing to introduce its next flagship smartphone family in China, and the Mate 90 Pro Max is expected to sit near the top of the lineup.
Huawei has officially confirmed the Mate 90 series launch for October 1, 2026. Recent reports also indicate that the series includes the Mate 90, Mate 90 Pro, Mate 90 Pro Max and Mate 90 RS Ultimate Design.
The Pro Max has attracted attention because of reports surrounding Huawei’s new Kirin 9050 Pro chipset, a large dual-layer OLED display and a high-resolution periscope camera. Some of the most ambitious specifications, however, remain unconfirmed until Huawei’s launch event.
Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max Launch Date
Huawei has officially scheduled the Mate 90 series event for October 1, 2026.
Recent Chinese reports say the Mate 90 series will be officially unveiled on October 1, with sales expected to begin shortly afterward. The exact retail details for individual Mate 90 Pro Max configurations have not yet been officially published by Huawei.
Huawei’s current official smartphone catalogue still lists the Mate 80 family as its latest Mate flagship generation, meaning the Mate 90 Pro Max remains an upcoming product as of September 29.
Kirin 9050 Pro Chip Expected
The Kirin 9050 Pro is one of the biggest reported upgrades for the Mate 90 Pro Max.
Leaks have consistently linked the Pro Max with the Kirin 9050 Pro, while Huawei has already introduced the processor as part of its latest Kirin generation. Chinese reporting describes the chip as using a new logic-folding architecture, with circuit elements vertically structured to increase density.
The Mate 90 Pro Max is also reportedly expected to be one of the first Huawei smartphones to make extensive use of this new architecture.
However, detailed CPU and GPU specifications for the phone should be treated as unconfirmed until Huawei publishes the final specifications.
6.9-Inch Dual-Layer OLED Display
The Mate 90 Pro Max is widely expected to feature a 6.9-inch dual-layer OLED display with a 1.5K-class resolution.
Recent leaks point toward an LTPO panel with adaptive refresh-rate technology. Some reports also claim exceptionally high peak brightness, potentially reaching around 10,000 nits under specific conditions, but this figure has not been officially confirmed by Huawei.
An optional privacy-display technology has also been reported for the Pro Max. The feature would help reduce off-angle visibility, although its exact implementation remains unclear.
Expected Display Details
| Feature | Reported Details |
| Size | 6.9 inches |
| Panel | Dual-layer OLED |
| Resolution | 1.5K |
| Technology | LTPO |
| Refresh rate | Up to 144Hz reported |
| Privacy display | Reported optional feature |
| Peak brightness | Up to 10,000 nits reported |
These remain leaked specifications, not Huawei-confirmed final specifications.
200MP Periscope Camera Could Be a Major Highlight
Camera technology could be another major focus of the Mate 90 Pro Max.
Multiple reports have linked the smartphone with a 200MP periscope telephoto camera. A separate leak also suggests Huawei may use a large primary sensor approaching the 1-inch class alongside an upgraded ultrawide camera.
Another Chinese report claims the phone’s primary camera could use a 50MP sensor with a 1/1.28-inch size and variable aperture, while the telephoto camera could use a 200MP 1/1.28-inch sensor.
Huawei is also expected to continue developing its XMAGE imaging system and Red Maple colour technology for the new generation.
The exact camera combination should be confirmed at launch.
Mate 90 Pro Max Collector Edition and Z10 Camera
One of the more unusual developments is the reported Mate 90 Pro Max Collector Edition.
Recent reports show that the Collector Edition is designed to work with Huawei’s Ruiying Z10 external camera module. The accessory reportedly combines a 1-inch sensor with a 10x optical zoom system, offering a claimed 24mm–240mm equivalent focal-length range.
Importantly, the Z10 module is not expected to be included as a standard phone accessory. Reports indicate that it is sold separately and requires compatible Huawei models such as the Mate 90 Pro Max Collector Edition.
This is one of the areas where the final launch announcement will be particularly important.
Up to 7,000mAh Battery Reported
Battery capacity is another area where leaks point to a significant upgrade.
Reports have placed the Mate 90 Pro Max battery between 6,800mAh and 7,000mAh, with 100W wired charging also reported.
A more recent Chinese report specifically lists a 6,800mAh battery and 100W wired charging for the Collector Edition.
Because these figures vary between reports, TDN should treat 6,800–7,000mAh as the current leaked range rather than presenting 7,000mAh as confirmed.
Reported RAM and Storage Options
Leaked retail information suggests the Mate 90 Pro Max could be offered with:
- 16GB RAM + 512GB storage
- 16GB RAM + 1TB storage
- A photography-oriented package
These configurations were reported as part of an early Mate 90 series SKU leak.
A separate report says the Mate 90 Pro Max Collector Edition could also be sold independently from the photography accessory package, although the exact retail structure remains subject to Huawei’s official announcement.
Design and Colour Options
The Mate 90 generation appears to bring back a two-tone rear design reminiscent of Huawei’s earlier Mate models.
Live images from Chinese retail stores show several colour combinations across the Mate 90 family, including green, black, white, orange and bronze-style finishes. The Mate 90 Pro Max Collector Edition has also been shown in a green two-tone design.
The series continues Huawei’s circular Star Ring camera design language, while the RS Ultimate Design reportedly uses a more distinctive octagonal camera arrangement.

Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max Price
Huawei has not officially announced the Mate 90 Pro Max price yet.
An early Chinese retail-channel leak estimated the standard Pro Max at around CNY 9,000, while the Collector Edition was estimated at around CNY 11,000 before any photography accessory costs. These are unofficial estimates and should not be presented as launch prices.
The final pricing should be confirmed during Huawei’s October 1 launch.
Will Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max Launch in India?
There is currently no confirmed India launch date or India price for the Mate 90 Pro Max.
Huawei’s October 1 event is currently a China launch event, and the company’s official Chinese smartphone catalogue has not yet listed the Mate 90 series.
Indian availability therefore should remain marked as unconfirmed until Huawei makes a separate announcement.
Conclusion
The Huawei Mate 90 Pro Max is shaping up as one of Huawei’s most ambitious flagship smartphones of 2026, but it is important to separate confirmed information from leaks.
Huawei has confirmed the October 1 Mate 90 series launch, while reports point to the Pro Max featuring the Kirin 9050 Pro, 6.9-inch dual-layer OLED display, 200MP periscope camera and a roughly 6,800–7,000mAh battery.
The reported Ruiying Z10 1-inch 10x optical camera module for the Collector Edition could be the most unusual part of the lineup, but its pricing and availability still need official confirmation.
With the launch just days away, the October 1 event should provide the final answers on pricing, camera specifications, battery capacity, configurations and whether Huawei plans any broader availability.
