Xiaomi is preparing to launch a new foldable smartphone, and the Xiaomi 18 Fold is already attracting attention ahead of its September debut. The company has confirmed that the phone will be powered by its new XRing O3 processor, while recent leaks have revealed a major change in the phone’s design.

A Wider Foldable Design

The latest leaked images reportedly show the Xiaomi 18 Fold with a wider, book-style design. Instead of the relatively narrow shape seen on some earlier foldables, Xiaomi appears to be moving toward a form factor that’s closer to newer wide-screen foldables.

The leaked device also appears to feature a horizontal rear camera module with three cameras. A dark red finish has been spotted in the leaked images, although Xiaomi has not confirmed the final colours yet.

Since these are leaked images rather than official product photographs, the final retail design could still be different.

XRing O3 Will Power the Phone

One of the biggest highlights of the Xiaomi 18 Fold is expected to be the XRing O3, Xiaomi’s latest in-house smartphone processor.

The chip is manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm process and features a 10-core CPU along with Xiaomi’s new G2-Ultra NX GPU. Xiaomi has made ambitious performance claims for the processor, including a claimed AnTuTu score above five million. However, real-world performance will need to be tested once commercial devices become available.

The XRing O3 is particularly significant because it shows Xiaomi continuing to develop its own silicon rather than relying entirely on Qualcomm or MediaTek.

What About the Cameras and Battery?

Several leaks have pointed to a triple-camera setup, while reports have also suggested a 200MP main camera. A large battery around the 6,000mAh mark has been mentioned in recent reports.

However, these specifications are still leak-based. Xiaomi has not yet officially confirmed the complete camera setup, battery capacity or charging specifications, so they should be treated cautiously.

September Launch Expected

Xiaomi has confirmed that the 18 Fold will launch in September 2026, with current reports pointing to China as the initial market. Pricing and global availability have not yet been confirmed.

That makes the next few weeks particularly interesting, especially as Xiaomi enters a more competitive foldable market alongside Samsung and Apple’s expected first foldable iPhone.
